Trans man

A trans man is a man who was assigned female at birth. The term "trans man" is an umbrella term encompassing a diversity of identities and experiences. Trans men, like cisgender men, have a male gender identity.

Transitioning, the process by which a trans person aligns their life with their gender identity, can involve various steps, including social transition (e.g., changing name and pronouns), legal transition (e.g., updating identification documents), and medical transition (e.g., hormone replacement therapy or surgeries). Not all trans men choose to undergo all or any of these steps, and the specific aspects of transition vary widely depending on individual needs and desires.

The term "FTM" (female-to-male) or "MTF" (male-to-female) are older terms that are sometimes used but are increasingly considered outdated. Some trans men may still use the term FTM to describe themselves, but many prefer "trans man."

The term "assigned female at birth" (AFAB) is generally preferred over "biological female" or "born female" as it focuses on the designation given at birth rather than making assumptions about biology or sex.

Discrimination and prejudice against trans men, known as transphobia, can be a significant issue. This can manifest in various forms, including microaggressions, denial of rights, violence, and systemic inequality. It is important to respect trans men's gender identity and use correct names and pronouns.
