Barnim I (electoral district)
Barnim I is an electoral district (German: Wahlkreis) used for elections to the Brandenburg Landtag, the state parliament of Brandenburg, Germany. It is one of 44 single-member constituencies used in the mixed-member proportional representation system.
Barnim I encompasses the northern part of the Barnim district. Specifically, it includes the municipalities of Ahrensfelde, Bernau bei Berlin (excluding the area covered by electoral district Barnim II), Panketal, and Werneuchen.
The current representative for Barnim I is appointed through direct election, and the seat has typically been contested by candidates from the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD) and the Christian Democratic Union of Germany (CDU). The electoral results in Barnim I contribute to the overall allocation of seats in the Landtag, with additional seats allocated based on proportional representation to ensure overall party representation reflects the statewide vote share. The boundaries and composition of Barnim I, like other electoral districts in Brandenburg, are subject to periodic review and potential adjustments to ensure fair representation based on population changes.
