Bobi Wine
Bobi Wine (Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, born 12 February 1982) is a Ugandan politician, singer, actor, and businessman. He is the leader of the National Unity Platform (NUP), a political party in Uganda.
Wine first gained popularity as a musician, known for his reggae and Afrobeat music, often incorporating themes of social justice and political commentary. His music resonated with many Ugandans, particularly the youth, and he became a prominent voice for change.
In 2017, Wine entered politics, winning a parliamentary seat representing Kyadondo East constituency. His political platform focuses on good governance, human rights, and economic empowerment for ordinary Ugandans. He quickly became a prominent opposition figure, challenging the long-standing rule of President Yoweri Museveni.
Wine contested the 2021 Ugandan presidential election, where he came in second place according to official results. The election was marred by accusations of widespread irregularities and violence. Since then, he continues to be a leading figure in Ugandan politics, advocating for democratic reforms and social justice. His political activities have frequently resulted in arrests and government crackdowns.
