EnergyBus

EnergyBus is a standardized communication protocol and connector system primarily used in light electric vehicles (LEVs) such as e-bikes, pedelecs, and electric scooters. Its aim is to create interoperability and simplify the integration of different electrical components within these vehicles.

The protocol, based on CAN (Controller Area Network) technology, defines a common language for devices like batteries, motors, displays, and chargers to communicate with each other. This standardized communication allows for features such as efficient battery management, intelligent motor control, and centralized monitoring of system performance.

Key benefits of EnergyBus include:

  • Interoperability: Devices from different manufacturers can communicate seamlessly, facilitating the integration of components.
  • Flexibility: The modular system allows for easy customization and upgrades.
  • Efficiency: Optimized communication leads to improved energy efficiency and extended battery life.
  • Safety: Standardized communication protocols help ensure system safety and reliability.

The EnergyBus connector is designed to handle both data and power transmission, simplifying wiring and reducing the overall complexity of the electrical system. The specification covers aspects like connector dimensions, pin assignments, and environmental protection.

While originally developed for LEVs, the EnergyBus concept can also be applied to other applications involving distributed power systems and intelligent communication networks. The standard is maintained and promoted by the EnergyBus e.V. association.
