Patapios

Patapios of Thebes is a Christian saint venerated in the Eastern Orthodox Church. He is typically referred to as Saint Patapios the Ascetic or Saint Patapios of Loutraki.

According to his hagiography, Patapios was born in Thebes, Egypt, to pious Christian parents. He embraced an ascetic life early on, leaving his home to live in the desert. He practiced rigorous fasting and prayer, seeking spiritual enlightenment. Driven by a desire for greater solitude, he eventually settled in a cave near Corinth, Greece, specifically in the region of Loutraki.

Patapios's fame for holiness spread, and many people sought him out for spiritual guidance and healing. He is credited with performing numerous miracles, including curing illnesses and driving out demons.

He is believed to have reposed in peace at an advanced age in his cave dwelling. His relics are kept at the Monastery of Saint Patapios, built near the location of his hermitage in Loutraki. The monastery is a popular pilgrimage site, and Saint Patapios is considered a protector against various ailments, especially diseases of the eyes. His feast day is celebrated on December 8th.
