Wellington (City of Wellington's Own) and Hawke's Bay Regiment

The Wellington (City of Wellington's Own) and Hawke's Bay Regiment was an infantry regiment of the New Zealand Army. It existed under this title from 1948 to 1964, formed by the amalgamation of the Wellington Regiment (City of Wellington's Own) and the Hawke's Bay Regiment. The regiment perpetuated the battle honours and traditions of its predecessor units.

Primarily a territorial force unit, the regiment drew its personnel from the Wellington and Hawke's Bay regions of New Zealand. As a territorial unit, it was composed largely of part-time soldiers who underwent regular training exercises and weekend camps, supplemented by a small cadre of full-time staff.

The regiment's lineage traces back to the volunteer units established in the 19th century for the defense of New Zealand. During its existence, the regiment fulfilled a vital role in providing trained personnel for the New Zealand Army, capable of deploying in support of national defense or international peacekeeping commitments.

In 1964, the regiment was further amalgamated with other units to form the 1st Battalion, Royal New Zealand Infantry Regiment (1 RNZIR), continuing the legacy of its constituent parts within a larger, more structured organization. The battle honours of the Wellington (City of Wellington's Own) and Hawke's Bay Regiment are now carried on by 1 RNZIR.
