Corona de lágrimas (2012 TV series)
Corona de lágrimas is a Mexican telenovela produced by José Alberto Castro for Televisa, which aired on Canal de las Estrellas from September 24, 2012, to February 17, 2013. It is a remake of the 1965 telenovela of the same name, starring Ernesto Alonso.
The series stars Victoria Ruffo as Refugio Chavero, alongside José María Torre, Mane de la Parra, and Alejandro Nones as her three sons. It tells the story of Refugio, a hardworking and devoted mother who struggles to raise her three sons, Patricio, Edmundo, and Ignacio, after being abandoned by her husband. They face numerous hardships including poverty, discrimination, and the constant threat of eviction.
Patricio, the eldest son, is ambitious and determined to escape their humble beginnings. He becomes a lawyer and often feels ashamed of his family's poverty. Edmundo, the middle son, is a doctor and more grounded than Patricio. Ignacio, the youngest, is kind and sensitive, and often acts as a mediator between his brothers and his mother.
The telenovela explores themes of maternal love, family loyalty, social class differences, ambition, and forgiveness. Throughout the series, Refugio endures many sacrifices and hardships for her sons, earning the metaphorical "crown of tears" from which the title is derived. As her sons pursue their dreams, Refugio's unwavering love and support remain a constant source of strength. The narrative includes complex relationships and conflicts as the Chavero family navigates love, loss, and the challenges of upward mobility. The series culminates in a resolution where the brothers reconcile with each other and their mother, appreciating the value of family and overcoming their past mistakes.
