Seminis

Seminis was a major global producer of vegetable and fruit seeds. Founded in 1994 through the merger of several seed companies, it became one of the world's largest developers, producers, and marketers of seeds specifically for horticultural crops. Seminis focused on breeding and developing new varieties of vegetables and fruits with desirable traits for commercial growers, such as disease resistance, improved yields, shelf life, and flavor.

The company operated globally, with research and development facilities, production sites, and sales offices located in key agricultural regions. Its seed portfolio included a wide range of crops, including tomatoes, peppers, melons, cucumbers, squash, beans, lettuce, and many others.

Seminis was acquired by Monsanto in 2005, becoming a subsidiary focused on vegetable seeds. Following Bayer's acquisition of Monsanto in 2018, Seminis became part of Bayer's Crop Science division. Though the Seminis brand is still used, its operations are integrated within the larger Bayer structure. The legacy of Seminis continues to influence the vegetable seed industry through its extensive germplasm collections and breeding innovations.
