Allan Eastman (diplomat)

Allan Eastman (born August 15, 1947) is a retired Canadian diplomat and academic. He served as Canada's Ambassador to Portugal from 2002 to 2006 and as Ambassador to Denmark from 2006 to 2011.

Eastman began his career with the Department of External Affairs (now Global Affairs Canada) in 1972. He held various positions in Ottawa and abroad, including postings to Tokyo, Bangkok, and Geneva. Prior to his ambassadorial roles, he served as Director General of the Policy Planning Bureau at the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade.

Following his retirement from the diplomatic service in 2011, Eastman joined the University of Waterloo as a Distinguished Fellow at the Centre for International Governance Innovation (CIGI). He also served as a Senior Fellow at the Balsillie School of International Affairs (BSIA). His research interests include international trade, security, and global governance.

Eastman holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Toronto and a Master of Arts degree from the University of Oxford. He has lectured extensively on international relations and diplomacy. He is a recipient of the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal.
