Salmson 3

The Salmson 3 was a French biplane reconnaissance aircraft produced by Salmson during World War I. It was developed from the earlier Salmson 2, aiming to improve upon its predecessor's performance and handling. The Salmson 3 retained the basic configuration of a two-seat, tractor biplane, but featured refinements to the airframe and engine. While intended as an improvement, it did not achieve widespread operational success, largely due to persistent engine problems and its availability coinciding with the introduction of more advanced aircraft. It saw limited service primarily with French and American units, mostly in a training role or for short-range reconnaissance. The Salmson 3's contribution to the war effort was considerably less significant than that of the Salmson 2.
