Anthony Watson (bishop)
Anthony Watson (died 1616) was an English clergyman who served as Bishop of Chichester from 1596 until his death.
Watson was educated at the University of Cambridge, graduating from St John's College. He was ordained and held several ecclesiastical positions before being appointed Bishop of Chichester.
During his time as bishop, Watson was involved in various controversies. He was accused of simony (selling church offices) and of neglecting his duties. These accusations led to investigations and challenges to his authority.
Despite the controversies, Watson remained Bishop of Chichester until his death in 1616. He left behind a complex legacy, remembered for both his ecclesiastical role and the scandals that surrounded his career.
