ioBridge
ioBridge was a company that provided a platform and services for connecting and controlling physical devices over the internet, often referred to as the Internet of Things (IoT). Founded in 2007 and based in Reston, Virginia, ioBridge focused on enabling developers and users to build custom home automation and monitoring solutions.
The core of ioBridge's offering was a hardware device, the ioBridge IO-204, which acted as a gateway between physical sensors and actuators and the ioBridge cloud platform. This platform allowed users to remotely monitor, control, and automate connected devices through a web interface or API. Users could connect various sensors, such as temperature, humidity, and light sensors, as well as control relays and other actuators.
ioBridge emphasized ease of use and flexibility, aiming to lower the barrier to entry for developing IoT applications. Their platform allowed for the creation of rules and schedules to automate device behavior, such as turning lights on and off at specific times or triggering actions based on sensor readings.
The company was acquired by ThingWorx (later acquired by PTC) in 2011. Although the ioBridge brand and specific hardware were discontinued after the acquisition, the technology and concepts behind ioBridge contributed to the evolution of ThingWorx's IoT platform. The fundamental goal of simplifying device connectivity and enabling remote monitoring and control remains a key principle in many modern IoT solutions.
