Matt Duffy (baseball, born 1989)

Matt Duffy (born January 15, 1989) is an American professional baseball infielder. He has played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the San Francisco Giants, Tampa Bay Rays, Texas Rangers, Chicago Cubs, and Los Angeles Angels.

Duffy was drafted by the San Francisco Giants in the 18th round of the 2012 Major League Baseball draft. He made his MLB debut with the Giants in 2014. He was a key contributor to the Giants' 2014 World Series championship team, primarily as a bench player. In 2015, he became the Giants' starting third baseman and finished second in the National League Rookie of the Year voting.

In 2016, Duffy was traded to the Tampa Bay Rays. He experienced injury issues during his time with the Rays, limiting his playing time. He was traded to the Texas Rangers in 2018 and subsequently signed with the Chicago Cubs in 2021. He signed with the Los Angeles Angels for the 2023 season.

Duffy is known for his versatility, having played multiple infield positions throughout his career. He is generally regarded as a solid defensive player with a capable bat.
