Udaya I
Udaya I was a monarch of the Anuradhapura Kingdom, ruling in what is now Sri Lanka in the 8th century CE. He reigned from approximately 797 to 801 CE. He is primarily known through the Mahavamsa, the Great Chronicle of Sri Lanka, which provides accounts of the kings and history of the island.
The Mahavamsa records that Udaya I was the son of Aggabodhi VIII and the brother of Mahinda II. His reign was relatively short, lasting only four years. The historical record offers limited detail regarding specific events or accomplishments during his rule. He was succeeded by Mahinda III.
Because of the brevity of his reign and the limited information available about his actions, Udaya I is considered a relatively minor figure in the long history of the Anuradhapura Kingdom. His significance lies primarily in his position within the dynastic succession.
