USS Ibis (AM-134)

The USS Ibis (AM-134) was an Auk-class minesweeper of the United States Navy. Laid down on 28 July 1942 by the Defoe Shipbuilding Company, Bay City, Michigan, she was launched on 19 December 1942, sponsored by Mrs. William L. Shearer, and commissioned on 28 August 1943, Lieutenant Commander William L. Specht in command.

Following shakedown, Ibis reported for duty in the Pacific Theater during World War II. She participated in mine-sweeping operations and provided anti-submarine patrols in support of amphibious landings at Saipan, Tinian, and Guam in 1944. She also saw action in the Philippines, supporting operations in Leyte Gulf in October 1944, and Lingayen Gulf in January 1945.

After World War II, Ibis remained in active service. She participated in Operation Crossroads, the atomic bomb tests at Bikini Atoll in 1946. Throughout the late 1940s and 1950s, Ibis conducted various training exercises and fleet operations.

USS Ibis (AM-134) was decommissioned on 23 December 1955 and placed in the Pacific Reserve Fleet. She was struck from the Naval Vessel Register on 1 May 1961 and sold for scrap on 7 February 1962. The Ibis received four battle stars for World War II service.
