USS Killdeer (AMc-21)
USS Killdeer (AMc-21) was an Accentor-class coastal minesweeper built for the United States Navy during World War II. Laid down on November 25, 1940, by the Fulton Iron Works in St. Louis, Missouri, the Killdeer was launched on May 31, 1941, and commissioned on November 18, 1941.
Serving throughout the war, the Killdeer primarily operated in the Pacific Theater, performing minesweeping and escort duties. She participated in operations around the Solomon Islands and other strategic locations, helping to clear waterways and ensure safe passage for larger vessels.
Following the cessation of hostilities, Killdeer was decommissioned on November 30, 1945. She was subsequently struck from the Navy List on April 17, 1946, and sold for scrapping on December 2, 1946. The Killdeer earned one battle star for her service during World War II.
