Bill O'Reilly (cricketer)

Bill O'Reilly (24 December 1905 – 6 October 1992) was an Australian cricketer, widely regarded as one of the greatest bowlers in the history of the sport. A leg spinner and aggressive right-handed lower-order batsman, O'Reilly played in 27 Test matches for Australia between 1932 and 1946, taking 144 wickets at an average of 22.59.

Known for his strong physique and attacking style, O'Reilly combined flight and sharp turn with considerable pace for a spinner, making him a difficult proposition for batsmen. He was a key member of Don Bradman's Australian team of the 1930s and 1940s, often forming a potent bowling partnership with left-arm spinner Chuck Fleetwood-Smith.

Beyond his on-field achievements, O'Reilly was also a respected cricket writer and commentator after his retirement. His insightful analysis and forthright opinions made him a popular figure in Australian cricket for many years. He was inducted into the Australian Cricket Hall of Fame in 1996 and the ICC Cricket Hall of Fame in 2009.
