Thomas Heywood (organist)
Thomas Heywood (born 1977) is an Australian concert organist, composer, and conductor, known for his virtuosity, versatility, and commitment to popularising the pipe organ. He is considered one of the world's leading concert organists.
Heywood's performances encompass a vast repertoire, spanning from the Baroque era to contemporary works. He is noted for his improvisational skills and his ability to adapt his playing style to suit the unique characteristics of each organ he performs on. Heywood is also recognised for commissioning and premiering new works for the organ, expanding its repertoire and pushing its sonic boundaries.
He began formal music lessons at the age of seven, and at age 11, began to learn the pipe organ with leading Australian organist, Dr. Robert Boughen. At 19, he became the youngest musician to be awarded the Fellowship Diploma (FTCL) from Trinity College London in organ performance.
Heywood maintains an active international concert schedule, performing in prestigious concert halls and cathedrals across Europe, North America, Asia, and Australia.
