Izhma (river)

The Izhma is a river in the Komi Republic of Russia. It is a left tributary of the Pechora River.

Geography:

The Izhma originates on the Timan Ridge and flows generally south, then west and northwest through a taiga landscape. Its length is 531 kilometers (330 mi), and its drainage basin is 31,000 square kilometers (12,000 sq mi). The river freezes up in late October or early November and stays frozen until late April or early May.

Hydrology:

The Izhma is primarily fed by snowmelt and rainfall.

Settlements:

The Izhma has historically been used for navigation and timber rafting. The discovery and development of oil and gas fields in the Ukhta region have also impacted the river basin. Fishing is another activity carried out on the river.
