Houghton Wines

Houghton Wines is one of the oldest and most iconic wineries in Western Australia. Established in 1836 by a syndicate of three British officers, the winery is located in the Swan Valley region, near Perth.

Initially known as Houghton & Co, the winery quickly became renowned for producing high-quality wines. Its history is marked by the contributions of several significant winemakers, most notably Jack Mann, who served as Houghton's winemaker for over 50 years, from 1937 to 1988. Mann is credited with creating Houghton's flagship wine, Houghton White Burgundy (later renamed Houghton White Classic), which remains one of Australia's best-selling white wines.

Over the years, Houghton has expanded its vineyard holdings and diversified its wine portfolio. Today, the winery produces a wide range of wines, including red, white, and sparkling varieties, sourcing grapes from various regions across Western Australia, including the Swan Valley, Margaret River, and Frankland River.

Houghton Wines has received numerous awards and accolades both domestically and internationally for its wines. The winery offers cellar door experiences, allowing visitors to sample wines, learn about the winemaking process, and explore the historic grounds. Houghton remains a significant player in the Australian wine industry and a symbol of Western Australian winemaking heritage.

In recent years, Houghton has undergone changes in ownership and management. Currently, it is owned by Accolade Wines, one of the largest wine companies in Australia.
