Maslenica Bridge (D8)
The Maslenica Bridge is a reinforced concrete arch bridge located in Croatia, spanning the Novsko Ždrilo strait of the Adriatic Sea. It connects the Croatian Adriatic coast with the interior regions, facilitating transportation along the D8 state road, also known as the Adriatic Highway.
The original bridge, built in 1961, was a significant feat of engineering at the time. However, it was destroyed in 1991 during the Croatian War of Independence.
A replacement bridge, using a similar arch design, was constructed on the same site. It was opened to traffic in 2020, restoring a vital transportation link severed during the war. The new bridge incorporates modern engineering techniques and materials, designed to withstand earthquakes and strong winds. Its construction was considered a symbol of resilience and reconstruction for the region. The designation "(D8)" in the name specifically refers to its location along the D8 state road.
