Teprenone
Teprenone is a synthetic isoprenoid with anti-ulcer and mucosal protective properties. It is primarily used in the treatment of gastric ulcers and gastritis. Teprenone is believed to exert its effects by increasing gastric mucus production, improving gastric mucosal blood flow, and protecting the gastric mucosa from various damaging factors. Specific mechanisms involve increasing the levels of prostaglandins and heat shock proteins in the gastric mucosa, which contribute to its protective effects. It has also been shown to affect phospholipid metabolism in the gastric mucosa, further enhancing its barrier function. Teprenone is typically administered orally. Possible side effects are generally mild and may include gastrointestinal disturbances and skin rashes. Its use is contraindicated in pregnant or breastfeeding women due to limited safety data.
