Rogue Trooper (video game)
Rogue Trooper is a third-person shooter video game developed by Rebellion Developments and released in 2006. It is based on the comic book series Rogue Trooper from the British comic anthology 2000 AD. The game follows the titular Rogue Trooper, a genetically engineered "Genetic Infantryman" (GI), across the war-torn planet Nu-Earth. Nu-Earth's atmosphere has been ravaged by war, rendering it toxic and unlivable for most life forms. GIs are specifically engineered to survive in this hostile environment.
Rogue is unique in that his fallen comrades' personalities are bio-chipped and implanted into his equipment. Gunnar's chip is embedded into Rogue's rifle, Helm's is in his helmet, and Bagman's resides in his backpack. These chips provide Rogue with tactical advice, technical expertise, and companionship throughout his mission.
The primary objective of Rogue Trooper is to avenge the betrayal of the Southern traitor general, and to locate and eliminate the Traitor General responsible for the massacre of Rogue's squad at Quartz Zone Massacre. Gameplay consists of linear levels with cover-based shooting mechanics. Rogue can utilise crafting systems using salvage collected from fallen enemies and the environment to create ammunition, med-packs, and upgrades. The game features a variety of weapons and tactical options.
Rogue Trooper received generally favorable reviews upon its release, praising its faithfulness to the source material, art style, and gameplay. A remastered version, Rogue Trooper Redux, was released in 2017, featuring updated graphics and controls.
