311 (band)

311 (pronounced "three-eleven") is an American rock band from Omaha, Nebraska, formed in 1988. The band consists of Nick Hexum (vocals, guitar), Doug "SA" Martinez (vocals, turntables), Tim Mahoney (guitar), Aaron "P-Nut" Wills (bass), and Chad Sexton (drums).

311 is known for its eclectic blend of rock, rap, reggae, funk, and metal. This fusion style has been described as alternative rock, rap rock, and funk metal, though the band themselves resist easy categorization. The band's sound incorporates heavy use of turntables and distinctive dual vocal delivery between Hexum and Martinez.

311 gained mainstream popularity in the mid-1990s with the release of their self-titled album, often referred to as "The Blue Album." This album featured the singles "Down" and "All Mixed Up," which achieved significant airplay and helped propel the band to widespread recognition. Other notable songs include "Beautiful Disaster," "Amber," and "Love Song" (a cover of The Cure song).

The band has maintained a dedicated fanbase throughout their career, due in part to their consistent touring and their accessible, positive lyrical themes. 311 has released numerous studio albums, achieving multi-platinum sales and consistently charting on the Billboard 200. They have also cultivated a strong online presence and continue to perform extensively. 311 Day, held biennially on March 11th, is a large-scale concert event organized by and for the band's fans.
