Leopold Müller (painter)
Leopold Müller (9 December 1834, Dresden – 4 August 1892, Weidlingau, near Vienna) was an Austrian genre painter.
Müller studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna under Karl von Blaas. He initially focused on historical paintings but later found greater success and recognition with scenes of everyday life, particularly those depicting Hungarian and Italian rural populations. His travels to Hungary and Italy provided inspiration for his work, which often showcased vibrant costumes, landscapes, and social customs.
Müller became a professor at the Vienna Academy in 1866 and held that position until his death. He was known for his skillful depiction of light and color, as well as his ability to capture the essence of the scenes he portrayed. His works were popular with collectors and were exhibited internationally.
His brother was the painter Carl Müller.
