Robert Moore (poet)

Robert Moore (born July 15, 1939, died July 8, 2006) was an American poet, essayist, translator, and educator. He is best known for his lyrical and often introspective poetry, frequently exploring themes of nature, memory, loss, and the human condition.

Moore received his B.A. from Wesleyan University in 1961 and an M.F.A. from the University of Iowa Writers' Workshop in 1964. He taught at several universities throughout his career, including Connecticut College and the University of New Hampshire.

His published works include the poetry collections A Kind of Wakefulness (1978), Names and Faces (1984), The Hieroglyphs of Love: Poems 1960-1990 (1991), and New Territory (2001). He also translated works by the French poet Yves Bonnefoy.

Moore's poetry is characterized by its precise language, subtle imagery, and a deep sensitivity to the natural world. His work often reveals a sense of quiet contemplation and a willingness to confront difficult emotions. He received numerous awards and fellowships for his writing, including grants from the National Endowment for the Arts. He resided in Newmarket, New Hampshire.
