Glucose 1-dehydrogenase (NAD+)

Glucose 1-dehydrogenase (NAD+) is an enzyme that catalyzes the oxidation of glucose at the C-1 position, using NAD+ as a cofactor. It belongs to the oxidoreductase family of enzymes, specifically those acting on a sugar alcohol or aldehyde group as donor with NAD+ or NADP+ as acceptor.

The systematic name of this enzyme is beta-D-glucose:NAD+ 1-oxidoreductase. It is also commonly referred to as NAD+-dependent glucose dehydrogenase.

The enzyme catalyzes the following chemical reaction:

beta-D-glucose + NAD+ <=> D-glucono-1,5-lactone + NADH + H+
