Pieter de Villiers (rugby union)

Pieter de Villiers (born July 3, 1972) is a South African-born former rugby union player who represented France internationally and later became a coach.

De Villiers played prop. He began his professional career in South Africa, playing for Western Province and the Stormers. He moved to France in 1996, where he played for Stade Français, initially as a lock, and later at prop where he truly excelled.

Qualifying for French citizenship through residency, he was selected to play for the French national team, making his debut in 1999. He went on to earn 69 caps for France and played in the 1999 and 2003 Rugby World Cups. He was known for his strong scrummaging and physical presence.

After retiring from playing, De Villiers moved into coaching. He served as forwards coach for the French national team under head coach Marc Lièvremont, notably during the 2011 Rugby World Cup where France reached the final. He has since held coaching positions with various club and international teams. His coaching focuses primarily on scrummaging and forward play.
