Patrick Evans (priest)

Patrick Evans (died 1651) was a Roman Catholic priest executed for his faith in Cardiff, Wales. Born in Monmouthshire, he served as a chaplain for several Catholic families in the area during a period when Catholicism was outlawed in England and Wales. He was arrested and charged with being a priest, which was considered high treason at the time. He refused to renounce his faith, and was subsequently found guilty and sentenced to death. Evans was hanged, drawn, and quartered on 21 July 1651, along with a fellow priest, John Lloyd. He was beatified by Pope John Paul II in 1987 as one of the Martyrs of England and Wales. His feast day is 25 October.
