Olga (2021 film)
Olga is a 2021 Swiss-French drama film directed by Elie Grappe. It tells the story of a 15-year-old Ukrainian gymnast, Olga, who is living in exile in Switzerland while training for the European Championships.
Olga's life is disrupted when the 2014 Maidan Revolution begins in Kyiv, Ukraine, where her mother, an investigative journalist, reports on the events. Torn between her dedication to her sport and her concern for her family and country, Olga struggles to balance her personal ambitions with the political turmoil unfolding back home. The film explores themes of national identity, exile, family separation, and the sacrifices required to achieve athletic success.
The film premiered at the 2021 Cannes Film Festival, where it won the SACD Award for Best Screenplay in the Critics' Week section. It was also selected as the Swiss entry for the Best International Feature Film at the 94th Academy Awards but was not nominated.
