Charles Stewart (Royal Navy officer)

Charles Stewart (1778 – 1869) was a British Royal Navy officer who served during the French Revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars.

Stewart entered the Royal Navy in 1790, serving initially aboard HMS Hector. He saw action in numerous engagements, including participating in the Glorious First of June in 1794 aboard HMS Queen Charlotte under Admiral Lord Howe. He distinguished himself for his bravery and seamanship throughout the wars.

He later served under Sir John Jervis, witnessing the Battle of Cape St Vincent in 1797. Stewart's career saw him rise through the ranks, eventually achieving the rank of Admiral.

Beyond his active service, Stewart also held various administrative positions within the Royal Navy. He retired from active service in the mid-19th century and died in 1869. His service record reflects a long and distinguished career in the Royal Navy during a period of intense naval conflict. His contributions were primarily in seamanship and leadership during naval battles, contributing to British naval dominance.
