Eystrup (Samtgemeinde)
The Samtgemeinde Eystrup is a collective municipality (Samtgemeinde) in the district of Nienburg, in Lower Saxony, Germany. It is located approximately 25 km northwest of Nienburg and 50 km south of Bremen.
Geography:
The Samtgemeinde lies on the western bank of the Weser river. Its landscape is characterized by flat marshland and agricultural fields.
Constituent Municipalities:
The Samtgemeinde Eystrup consists of the following four municipalities:
- Eystrup
- Hämelhausen
- Hoyerhagen
- Gandesbergen
Administration:
The administration of the Samtgemeinde is located in Eystrup. The Samtgemeinde is governed by a council composed of representatives from each of the constituent municipalities. The head of the administration is the Samtgemeindebürgermeister (collective municipality mayor).
History:
The Samtgemeinde Eystrup was formed in the Lower Saxon municipal reform of 1974. The constituent municipalities, however, have a longer history, with some dating back to the medieval period.
Economy:
The economy of the Samtgemeinde Eystrup is primarily based on agriculture and small-scale businesses. Tourism, particularly related to cycling and hiking along the Weser river, also plays a role.
Transportation:
The Samtgemeinde is well-connected to the regional transportation network. The Bundesstraße 6 (B6) runs through the area, and the Eystrup railway station provides connections to Bremen and Hanover.
