Craighall

Craighall is a suburb located in Johannesburg, South Africa. It is situated in Region B of the City of Johannesburg Metropolitan Municipality. Craighall is known as a primarily residential area, characterized by relatively large properties and established gardens.

The suburb is generally considered an affluent area and is conveniently located near major transportation routes, providing easy access to other parts of Johannesburg. It is bordered by other suburbs such as Hyde Park, Dunkeld, and Craighall Park.

While primarily residential, Craighall also has some commercial activity, particularly along Jan Smuts Avenue, a major thoroughfare that runs through the suburb. This includes restaurants, shops, and businesses.

Craighall Park, a separate but neighboring suburb, is often confused with Craighall. Craighall Park generally features a greater concentration of commercial activity than Craighall itself.

Historically, the area, like much of Johannesburg, was developed following the discovery of gold in the late 19th century. However, Craighall's development as a distinct suburb occurred primarily in the mid-20th century.
