Mini 500

The Mini 500 was a single-seat helicopter kit manufactured by Revolution Helicopter Corporation of Excelsior Springs, Missouri. The design was intended to be an affordable entry into personal helicopter ownership. The Mini 500 was powered by a Rotax 582 two-stroke engine.

Despite its initial appeal and low price point, the Mini 500 was plagued by significant safety and reliability issues. A high accident rate and multiple fatal crashes tarnished its reputation. Contributing factors included design flaws, the engine's suitability for sustained hovering, and the quality of construction, which was dependent on the builder's skill and adherence to instructions.

Revolution Helicopter Corporation ceased production of the Mini 500 in the late 1990s. Due to the safety concerns and discontinued production, it is not recommended to operate or acquire a Mini 500 without expert evaluation and significant upgrades, if possible. The aircraft's legacy serves as a cautionary tale regarding the challenges of developing and marketing affordable, personal helicopters.
