Screamer (video game)
Screamer is a 1995 racing video game developed and published by Virgin Interactive Entertainment. It is known for its high-speed gameplay, distinctive polygonal graphics, and techno/trance soundtrack. The game featured seven different tracks spread across various global locales and allowed players to race against each other in split-screen multiplayer mode or against computer-controlled opponents. A key element of Screamer's gameplay was the emphasis on maintaining momentum; braking was heavily discouraged, and skillful navigation was rewarded with speed boosts.
The game was originally released for DOS and later ported to the Sega Saturn and PlayStation consoles. While not achieving critical acclaim, Screamer was commercially successful and spawned a sequel, Screamer 2, in 1996. A third game, Screamer Rally, was released in 1997, further evolving the gameplay and visual style of the series. Screamer is remembered as a visually striking and fast-paced arcade racer that contributed to the racing game landscape of the mid-1990s.
