Mikoyan
Mikoyan was a prominent Soviet Armenian aircraft designer who, along with Mikhail Gurevich, co-founded the Mikoyan-Gurevich (MiG) design bureau. The bureau became renowned for its high-performance military aircraft, particularly fighter jets, which played a significant role in the Soviet Air Force and were widely exported to countries allied with the Soviet Union.
Key contributions of Artem Mikoyan include:
- Co-founding MiG: Along with Mikhail Gurevich, he established the MiG design bureau, which was responsible for developing a wide range of aircraft.
- MiG Aircraft Development: He played a pivotal role in the design and development of numerous MiG aircraft, including the MiG-1, MiG-3, MiG-15, MiG-19, and MiG-21. These aircraft saw extensive use in conflicts such as the Korean War and the Vietnam War.
- Technical Innovation: Mikoyan's work contributed significantly to advancements in aviation technology, including swept-wing designs and the development of supersonic aircraft.
After Mikoyan's death in 1970, the design bureau was renamed Mikoyan. It continues to operate today as a part of the United Aircraft Corporation in Russia, still producing and developing military aircraft.
