Geoffrey Howard (British Army officer)

Geoffrey Howard (1877 – 1962) was a British Army officer who served in both the Second Boer War and the First World War. He achieved the rank of Brigadier-General.

Born on August 17, 1877, Howard was commissioned into the Royal Scots Greys (2nd Dragoons) in 1897. He saw action in the Second Boer War (1899-1902), receiving the Queen's South Africa Medal with clasps.

During the First World War, Howard initially served on the Western Front. He held various staff positions, including General Staff Officer (GSO) Grade 2. In 1918, he was appointed Brigadier-General, General Staff (BGGS), and served in this capacity for the remainder of the war. He was mentioned in dispatches multiple times and awarded the Companion of the Order of St Michael and St George (CMG) and the Companion of the Order of the Bath (CB) for his service. He also received foreign decorations.

After the war, Howard continued his military career, holding various commands and staff appointments. He retired from the British Army in the interwar period. He died on December 28, 1962.
