Sorcerer (band)
Sorcerer is a Swedish epic doom metal band formed in 1988 in Stockholm. The band was initially active until 1992, releasing two demos, before disbanding.
History:
The band was formed by vocalist Anders Engberg and guitarist Peter Fields. Their early sound was heavily influenced by bands such as Candlemass and Trouble. Following the release of their demos, Anno 1503 (1989) and The Inquisition (1992), the band struggled to gain significant traction and ultimately dissolved.
In 2010, Sorcerer reformed with a slightly different lineup, featuring original members Anders Engberg and Peter Fields, alongside new members Kristian Niemann (guitar), Johnny Hagel (bass), and Robert Ivarsson (drums). This reformation led to a renewed focus on writing and recording new material.
Musical Style:
Sorcerer's music is characterized by its slow tempos, heavy guitar riffs, operatic vocals, and dark, melancholic atmosphere. Their style is rooted in classic doom metal but incorporates elements of epic metal, creating a sound that is both powerful and emotive. Lyrical themes often explore fantasy, mythology, and historical narratives.
