Mid Tyrone (District Electoral Area)
Mid Tyrone was a District Electoral Area (DEA) in Northern Ireland, used for local elections to the Omagh District Council from 1985 to 2014, and subsequently to the Omagh and Fermanagh District Council from 2014 to 2015. It was abolished in 2014 following a review of local government arrangements in Northern Ireland.
The DEA encompassed a geographically diverse area within County Tyrone, generally located in the central region of the former Omagh District. The area included both rural communities and smaller settlements.
Councillors elected from Mid Tyrone represented the interests of the residents on matters such as local planning, infrastructure, environmental services, and community development.
Prior to its abolishment, Mid Tyrone elected five councillors to the Omagh District Council. Political representation within the DEA typically included a mix of nationalist and unionist parties, reflecting the broader political landscape of Northern Ireland. The specific parties represented varied across different election cycles. The electorate generally reflected the demographic balance of the wider Omagh area. Following the local government reform in 2014, the area formerly covered by the Mid Tyrone DEA was incorporated into larger DEA structures within the newly formed Omagh and Fermanagh District Council.
