Mokoreta River

The Mokoreta River is a river located in the Southland region of the South Island of New Zealand. It rises in the Hokonui Hills and flows generally south-eastwards, eventually discharging into the Toetoes Bay, near the township of Fortrose. The river is relatively short and is known for its brown trout fishing. The surrounding land is primarily agricultural, with a mixture of pasture and some remaining native bush. The Mokoreta River is part of the wider hydrological system of Southland and contributes to the ecological health of the Toetoes Bay ecosystem. Local community groups are involved in efforts to maintain and improve the water quality of the Mokoreta River.
