Isola (Maloja)
Isola is a small village located in the Maloja region of Switzerland, part of the Graubünden canton. It sits at an altitude of approximately 1,815 meters (5,955 feet) above sea level and is situated on the shores of Lake Sils (Silsersee), the largest lake in the Engadine valley.
Isola is primarily a tourist destination, particularly popular during the summer months for hiking, sailing, windsurfing, and other water sports. In the winter, it provides access to cross-country skiing trails and is within reach of several downhill skiing areas in the surrounding mountains.
The village is connected to the larger town of Maloja by road and public transportation, primarily buses. While Isola is smaller and quieter than Maloja, it offers accommodation options for visitors and several restaurants. Its location on the lake provides scenic views and a tranquil atmosphere. Historically, the area has been influenced by both Swiss and Italian cultures.
