Curtis Hutson (pastor)

Curtis Hutson (1934-1995) was an American Independent Baptist pastor, evangelist, and author. He served as the editor of The Sword of the Lord newspaper from 1980 until his death.

Hutson was born in Savannah, Georgia. He graduated from Mercer University and later attended Bob Jones University. He began his pastoral ministry in 1957.

He became pastor of the Forest Park Baptist Church in Forest Park, Georgia, in 1962, a position he held for eighteen years. During his tenure, the church experienced significant growth.

In 1980, Hutson succeeded John R. Rice as the editor of The Sword of the Lord, a fundamentalist Baptist newspaper. He used the publication to promote evangelism, biblical fundamentalism, and conservative social views. He also authored numerous books and pamphlets, many of which were distributed through The Sword of the Lord organization.

Hutson was a popular speaker at Bible conferences and evangelistic meetings throughout the United States and internationally. His sermons and writings emphasized personal salvation through faith in Jesus Christ, the authority of the Bible, and separation from worldly influences.

He died in a car accident in 1995. The Sword of the Lord continued publication under different editorship after his death. His legacy continues to be felt among Independent Baptist churches and through the distribution of his writings and sermons.
