Axel Gedaschko (born 1959) is a German politician and business executive. He is most known for his long-standing involvement in German housing and real estate associations.
Gedaschko served as Senator for Urban Development and Environment in Hamburg from 2004 to 2008, representing the Christian Democratic Union (CDU). During his tenure, he oversaw various urban planning and environmental initiatives in the city-state.
Following his political career, Gedaschko transitioned to the private sector. He served as the CEO of the German Housing Federation (GdW Bundesverband deutscher Wohnungs- und Immobilienunternehmen) from 2009 until 2021. In this role, he represented the interests of a large number of housing companies in Germany, advocating for policies related to affordable housing, energy efficiency, and sustainable urban development. His leadership at the GdW made him a prominent voice in the German housing debate.
After leaving the GdW, Gedaschko became the Managing Director of the German Property Federation (ZIA Zentraler Immobilien Ausschuss) in 2021, a position he still holds. The ZIA represents a broad range of companies and organizations in the real estate industry. As Managing Director, Gedaschko continues to be an influential figure in shaping the policy landscape for the German property market. He is frequently quoted in the media and participates in discussions on issues such as housing shortages, rising rents, and the impact of climate change on the built environment.
