Pera (plant)

Pera generally refers to the fruit of the pear tree (genus Pyrus), belonging to the Rosaceae family. Pear trees are deciduous trees or shrubs, native to temperate regions of Europe, Asia, and North Africa.

The term "pera" typically describes the edible pomaceous fruit, characterized by its distinctive pyriform (teardrop) shape in many common varieties, although some pears are more rounded. The fruit develops from the flower's ovary and consists of a fleshy outer layer (the pericarp) surrounding a core containing seeds.
