Richard Fletcher (bishop)

Richard Fletcher (c. 1545 – 15 June 1596) was an English bishop. He served as Bishop of Bristol from 1589 to 1592 and Bishop of Worcester from 1592 to 1596.

Early Life and Career

Details about Fletcher's early life are scarce. He is believed to have been born around 1545. He was educated at Cambridge, where he was a fellow of Trinity College. His rise through the Church of England was rapid, reflecting the favor he gained under Queen Elizabeth I. He held several important positions before his elevation to the episcopate.

Episcopate

Fletcher's time as Bishop of Bristol was relatively brief. He was then translated to the more prestigious see of Worcester in 1592. His tenure in Worcester was also marked by a comparatively short time in office.
