Abu Dabis

Abu Dhabi (Arabic: أَبُو ظَبْيٍ‎ Abū Ẓabyٍ, pronounced [ɐˈbuˈðˤɑbi]) is the capital and the second-most populous city of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and also the capital of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, the largest of the UAE's seven emirates.

Abu Dhabi sits on an island in the Persian Gulf, off the Central West Coast. Most of the city and the Emirate reside on the mainland connected to the rest of the UAE. As of 2023, Abu Dhabi's urban area had an estimated population of 1.5 million.

Abu Dhabi is a planned city with wide, grid-patterned streets and numerous parks and gardens. It is the center of political and industrial activities in the UAE, and a major cultural and commercial center, due to its position as the capital. The city is a significant hub for the oil and gas industry and financial institutions. The government plays a prominent role in the city's economy.

The name "Abu Dhabi" translates to "Father of the Gazelle." The origin of the name is often attributed to a story involving a hunter who followed a gazelle to a source of fresh water, which became the site of the first settlement.

Key landmarks include the Sheikh Zayed Mosque, the Emirates Palace, and the Louvre Abu Dhabi. Abu Dhabi International Airport (AUH) serves as a major transportation hub in the region. The city is also actively investing in renewable energy sources and sustainable development initiatives.
