Bob McLeod (politician)

Bob McLeod (born February 16, 1952) is a Canadian politician from the Northwest Territories. He served as the 12th Premier of the Northwest Territories from 2011 to 2019.

McLeod was first elected to the Legislative Assembly of the Northwest Territories in the 1999 general election, representing the constituency of Yellowknife South. He was re-elected in the 2003, 2007, 2011, and 2015 general elections.

Throughout his career as a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA), McLeod held various cabinet portfolios, including Minister of Finance, Minister of Human Resources, Minister of Industry, Tourism and Investment, Minister responsible for the Workers' Compensation Board, and Minister responsible for the Northwest Territories Housing Corporation.

In 2011, following the general election, McLeod was selected as Premier by the consensus government system of the Northwest Territories. He served two terms as Premier, focusing on issues such as economic development, resource management, and infrastructure investment. He also emphasized the importance of preserving the territory's Indigenous cultures and languages.

McLeod did not seek re-election in the 2019 general election. He is a member of the Liberal Party of Canada.
