Steve Brodie (actor)

Steve Brodie (born Steven Robert Contarino; November 21, 1919 – January 9, 1992) was an American actor whose career spanned over four decades, primarily in film and television. He was often cast in supporting roles, frequently portraying tough guys, gangsters, or law enforcement officers.

Brodie began his acting career in the 1940s, gaining early recognition for his uncredited role in the film They Drive By Night (1940). He steadily built his resume with roles in numerous B-movies and genre films, including Westerns, crime dramas, and science fiction. His film credits include Kiss Tomorrow Goodbye (1950), The Tanks Are Coming (1951), The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms (1953), and Attack of the 50 Foot Woman (1958).

In the 1950s, Brodie transitioned increasingly to television, appearing in a wide variety of popular series. He made guest appearances on shows such as The Lone Ranger, Perry Mason, Gunsmoke, Rawhide, The Adventures of Superman, The Twilight Zone, and Get Smart. He continued to work steadily in television throughout the 1960s, 1970s, and 1980s.

While he rarely achieved leading man status, Steve Brodie became a recognizable and reliable character actor. He was known for his gruff demeanor and ability to play both sympathetic and villainous roles effectively. His prolific career in film and television cemented his place as a working actor within the Hollywood system. He died in 1992 in West Hills, California.
