Savage Grace (metal band)
Savage Grace was an American power metal band formed in Los Angeles, California in 1981. The band is primarily known for their early albums, which are considered influential in the development of speed metal and power metal.
History:
Savage Grace was founded by guitarist Christian Logue. The original lineup solidified with the addition of vocalist John Neal, guitarist Mark Marshall, bassist Brian East, and drummer Danny Bryant. They released their debut EP, The Dominatress, in 1983.
Their first full-length album, Master of Disguise, was released in 1985 and is often cited as a classic of the early power metal era. The album featured aggressive riffs, soaring vocals, and fantasy-themed lyrics. This album cemented their position in the emerging thrash and speed metal scene.
In 1986, Savage Grace released their second studio album, After the Fall from Grace. While still featuring fast tempos and aggressive instrumentation, this album saw the band experimenting with more melodic elements and a slightly more polished production.
After After the Fall from Grace, the band went through numerous lineup changes, with Christian Logue remaining the only constant member. They released Ride into the Night in 1988, which was significantly different in style from their earlier work, embracing a more commercial hard rock sound. This departure was not well-received by many fans.
The band continued to exist in various forms with fluctuating lineups throughout the 1990s and 2000s, occasionally performing live and recording demos. Logue attempted to resurrect the Savage Grace name at various times, but no official studio albums were released until 2010.
In 2010, a reformed Savage Grace, featuring Christian Logue, released the album The Butterfly Effect – Part 1. This album saw a return to a more traditional power metal sound.
Savage Grace's early work continues to be influential on power metal and speed metal bands, and Master of Disguise is considered a seminal album in the genre.
