Neelathamara (2009 film)
Neelathamara is a 2009 Malayalam-language romantic drama film directed by Lal Jose and written by M. Sindhuraj. It is a remake of the 1979 film of the same name, written by the legendary Malayalam writer M.T. Vasudevan Nair.
The film stars Archana Kavi in the lead role as Kunjimalu, along with Kailash, Suresh Gopi, and Samvrutha Sunil in supporting roles. The plot revolves around Kunjimalu, a young woman who comes to work as a maid in an ancestral home and the unrequited love she has for the landlord's nephew. The story explores themes of class difference, longing, and the power of dreams and fantasies.
The 2009 Neelathamara received positive reviews for its performances, direction, and music composed by Vidyasagar. It was also a commercial success. The film is noted for introducing Archana Kavi to Malayalam cinema and for its nostalgic recreation of the original film’s atmosphere while presenting a contemporary take on the narrative. M.T. Vasudevan Nair, the writer of both films, praised the remake for its faithfulness to his original story.
